Andris Lapins studied at the Latvian Academy of Music (LMA) in professor Bruno Egle opera singing class from 1994 – 1998. After graduating LMA, he received a bachelor degree in opera singing, as well as concert singing and pedagogy of music. During his studies in the first year (1994), he became involved in the opera studio “Figaro”, managed by professor Viesturs Gailis, studying and accomplishing several roles, for example, Rinuccio from G. Puccini opera “Gianni Schicchi”, Fritz form P. Mascagni opera “Friend Fritz” (L’amico Fritz), Almaviva from G. Rossini opera “Il barbiere di Siviglia”, which he sang not only in Riga but also in other cities of Latvia. After graduating LMA, Andris Lapins regularly consults with vocal pedagogues both in Latvia and abroad (Irina Gavrilovici - Austria) and Paolo di Napoli (Italy)).
Since 1998 he has been working at the Latvian National Opera, as well
as participating in staging various operas, musical comedies, and great
musical forms in Latvia, Great Britain, Germany, Lithuania and Austria.
Andris Lapins is a soloist of Riga Musical Theatre as well as the soloist
of the musical theatre – association “Solo”. He has
participated in six international opera festivals in Sigulda as a soloist.
Having passed the selection from 500 singers for staging an opera of M. Ravel “The Child and Spells” (L’enfant et les sortilèges) he got an international scholarship and 3 roles.
The performance was shown in Liverpool in July 2006. The conductor was Laurient Pillot (France), but the director - Bernard Rozet (France). In September 2006 he took part in a special production of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic European Opera centre “Dmitriy Shostakovich – 100”, conducted by Vasiliy Petrenko (Василий Петренко) and directed by Elena Tzavara (Elena Tzavara). In this performance Andris Lapins performed Krugel from opera “Gamblers” (Игроки) and Rotshild in V. Fleishman (Вениамин Флейшман) opera “Rotshild’s Violin” (Скрипка Ротшильда). These performances were watched by 2000 spectators. For the future Andris Lapins has scheduled cooperation with The European Opera centre. In January, 2007, Andris Lapins sang Peasant from D. Shostakovich opera “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” in Massimo Bellini opera Theatre in Catania, Sicily. In June, 2007 Andris Lapins sang Baker from Eriks Esenvalds (Ēriks Ešenvalds) opera ”Joseph Is a Fruitful Bough” (Augļu koks ir Jāzeps). Premierre of this opera opened Riga Opera Festival 2007. Andris Lapins participated in International opera festival of Sigulda in 2007, where he performed Remendado from opera of G. Bizet “Carmen” and participated in concert "Baltic Luxuries" and Gala concert. In October, 2007 Andris Lapins with Latvian National opera made a debut in Moscow Bolshoi Teatr (Большой театр), where he was singing Peasant from D. Shostakovich “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk”. In October, 2007 tenor performed Remendado from G. Bizet "Carmen". Carmen was famous singer Elina Garanca. Conductor was Karel Mark Chichon (Gibraltar), director was Andrejs Zagars (Latvia). In January, 2008, A. Lapins performed Karabas-barabas in new opera of J. Lusens - "The Puppet's Opera". This role was written specially for Andris Lapins. In 3rd of June, 2008 A. Lapins made a debut on stage of Dusseldorf Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He performed Peasant from D. Shostakovich “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk”. Conductor was John Fiore, director was Dmitri Tcherniakov (Дмитрий Черняков). In November 2008 A. Lapins in Latvian National opera will stage 1.Geharnichte Männer from opera of W.A. Mozart "Die Zauberflüte". In February, March, 2009 A. Lapins participated with Latvian National opera in 37th Hong Kong Arts Festival in Hong Kong. He performed Peasant from D. Shostakovich “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk”. Conductor was Gintaras Rinkevicus. In June 2009 Andris Lapins participated with Latvian National opera in Miskolc Opera Festival in Hungary. He performed 1. Geharnichte Maenner from V. A. Mozart "Die Zauberfluete". In July 2009 he participated in Opera Festival of Sigulda. In December 2009 Andris Lapins performed Cips in J. Lusens "The Bird's Opera" renewal in Latvian National opera. In May 2010 he sang a Robber in Valts Puce new musical "Velnini". This role has written specially for Andris Lapins In June 2010 Andris Lapins participated in Riga Opera festival opening performance - G. Puccini opera "Il Trittico" premiere. He sang Tinca (in "Il Tabarro") and Gherardo (in "Gianni Schicchi") In December 2010 performed Triquet from P. Tchaikovsky opera "Eugene Onegin"(Евгений Онегин) in Latvian National opera staging. Opera director was Andrejs Zagars. In September 2012 performed The Lame Teacher role in A. Dzenitis opera "Dauka" world premierre. The role has been written specially for Andris Lapins. In Latvian National opera 2013./2014. Andris Lapins performed 2 new roles: Trufaldino from S.Prokofiev opera "The Love for Three Oranges"(Любовь к трём апельсинам), and a Black Horse G8 in new opera written by Kristaps Petersons "Mihail un Mihail plays Chess"(Mihails un Mihails spēlē šahu), which world premierre was in year 2014. In season 2014.-2015. Andris Lapins participated in Latvian composer Arturs Maskats new opera Valentina (Valentīna). He performed Schutzmann role. In season 2015.-2016.Andris Lapins performed Cascada role in Latvian Operette Foundation (www.operetesfonds.lv) performance in Franz Lehár operetta "The Merry Widow". In July 2015 in Sigulda International Opera Festiva he performed Lipsts role in Arvīds Žilinskis opera "Zelta Zirgs". In year 2015 Andris Lapins performed Cīps role in legendary Jānis Lūsēns Latvian children opera renewal "Birds' opera". In year 2016 Andris Lapins performed Crab man, Mingo un Nelson roles from George Gershwin opera "Porgy and Bess" in Cesis, Latvia. In 2017 in Sigulda International Opera Festiva he performed Bardolfo role in Giuseppe Verdi opera "Falstaff".
